Google Meet is still offering free unlimited calls until June 30, 2021.

Further Extension of Free Unlimited Calls

On twitter, the official Google Workspace account recently announced extending unlimited Google Meet calls till June 30, 2021.

Google Meet initially offered free unlimited video calls in March 2020 to support remote workers through the pandemic. The company also planned to limit the free virtual calls to 60 minutes starting September 30, 2020.

At the time, premium Google Meet (or Hangout) features were made available to G-suite customers for free. The package included internal live streaming, virtual meetings with a 250-persons capacity, and call recordings saved to Google Drive. Similarly, competitors like Cisco WebEx and Microsoft Teams also offered free video calling support to their users.

Google's Contribution to Helping Remote Workers Communicate Virtually

But, Google extended the deadline from the 30th of September 2020 to the 31st of March 2021. And owing to the recent extension of the lockdown, Google later announced that Google Meet users can continue to enjoy unlimited video calls until the 30th of June 2021.

Most organizations, both physical and virtual, encouraged their employees to work remotely from 2020 because of the economic distress that the pandemic caused. With the deadline extensions that Google has offered for Google Meet users, it will be easier for people to hold unlimited meetings and important calls for free. The latest extension of unlimited Google Meet features allows users to make virtual calls and meetings with their free Gmail accounts for up to 24 hours. So as a Google user, you can use Google meet calls to connect with any of your contacts who have access to the internet.

All "Free Unlimited Call" Privileges will be Stopped Eventually

With Google Meet, you can add up 100 other participants to your calls, whether they installed the Google Meet app or not. Users that don’t have the Google Meet app can sign in and join your call through their web browsers.

While enjoying these features, it is important to note that by June 30, 2021, free Google Meet account users will have limited video calls. So, with a free account, you will no longer be able to host several people on a video call for more than an hour. Instead, you can upgrade to a paid plan to continue to access 24-hour group calling functionality after the deadline.
